Alchemy is one of the Hermetic sciences, alongside Astrology and Qabalah — the Western esoteric tradition derived from Jewish Kabbalah, rooted in Egyptian mysticism, where it all began. Hermeticism derives from Hermes Trismegistus — the fusion of the Greek god Hermes, known as Mercury, and the Egyptian god Thoth, divine keeper of Gnosis (sacred knowledge). These teachings traveled to Greece, Rome, and the Library of Alexandria, then preserved through the Islamic Golden Age, and re-emerged in the West during the Renaissance.

Alchemy is the mother of modern chemistry and precursor of pharmacology, but the modern sciences had lost their soul. Paracelsus is considered the father of holistic medicine, and the creator of spagyric pharmacy: a system that bridges alchemy, astrology, and philosophy, into a medical framework focused on energetic and physical healing. 

The word comes from Greek: spao = to separate & ageiro = to recombine. In Spagyria, the plant matter or substance is broken down into its three philosophical principles:
